Experts in AI and health are gearing up for the sixth meeting of the Focus Group on ‘AI for Health’ (FG-AI4H), an ITU-WHO initiative working towards the establishment of a framework and associated processes for the performance benchmarking of ‘AI for Health’ algorithms.
The meeting will be held in Zanzibar, Tanzania, 2-5 September 2019, hosted by the Universal Communications Service Access Fund of Tanzania, with the support of Fondation Botnar.
The Focus Group is studying ‘AI for Health’ use cases addressing health issues spanning from breast cancer and neurodegenerative diseases to autism, vision loss, skin lesions, cardiovascular diseases, and venomous snakebites.
The Zanzibar meeting will analyze proposals resulting from the Focus Group’s most recent Call for Proposalssoliciting additional use cases and associated datasets (deadline: 26 August). The Focus Group will also continue its drive towards the launch of an always-available online system for the benchmarking of ‘AI for Health’ algorithms.
The meeting will open with a workshop on 2 September to discuss standardization opportunities for the assessment of ‘AI for Health’ solutions in support of the work of the Focus Group.
The workshop will share insight into the potential of AI to revolutionize healthcare in fields such as clinical decision support, personalized medicine, the augmentation of diagnostic capabilities, the interpretation of medical imagery, and disease prevention. It will also discuss the importance of aligning the Focus Group’s work with WHO’s global goals for health in terms of desired health outcomes and the scalability and inclusivity of ‘AI for Health’ solutions.
